Granny’s Mason Jar is the sound of Appalachian guitar flatpicking—raw, fiery, and deeply rooted in tradition. Since 2015, Aaron Plantenberg and Jared “Blue” Smith have been canning and preserving the music of the mountains through driving fiddle tunes, heartfelt folk ballads, and the blues.

The Granny’s project grew out of late-night jam sessions following rehearsals with other bands the duo previously performed in, where a shared love of traditional acoustic music sparked something special. Drawing from the long-standing traditions of Old-Time and Bluegrass music, their sound is heavily influenced by the great flatpickers who shaped the genre—Doc and Merle Watson, Clarence White, Tony Rice, Norman Blake, and many more.

With powerful rhythm, melodic precision, and deep respect for the music’s roots, Granny’s Mason Jar keeps the flatpicking tradition alive while delivering it with energy and authenticity. We hope to bring this fiery Appalachian sound to a place near you.
